Promoting personal hygiene: Distribution of dignity kits to secondary school students

The Kamau Wairuri Foundation has delivered over 600 dignity kits for secondary school students in Kangema District, Murang’a County, over the last two months. This initiative has been executed in response to the requests by the headteachers of various schools for the foundation to intervene. In particular, teachers have highlighted the plight of female students who are often unable to attend school during their menses. The teachers noted that the Ministry of Education has not supplied the students with the sanitary towels which are crucial to the retention of students in school.

Kangema Football Tournament promotes sober and healthy living amongst young people

The tournament was birthed following a request by local stakeholders for the foundation to address the neglect of sports and the creative sector in the district. As Dr. Wairuri noted, “We sat down with all team captains and agreed that a tournament was the best way to support the teams,” Wairuri said. The stakeholders decried the poor state of the facilities they use, the lack of uniforms as well as balls. Following their requests, the foundation facilitated the teams with playing kits that included balls, jerseys, shorts and socks. Each team was also provided with two new balls.

Follow up visit to Rwathia Secondary for donations and inspirational talk

On 5th September 2024, the Kamau Wairuri Foundation team made a follow-up visit to Rwathia Mixed Secondary School to continue their support through the Dignified Learning Project. Led by Dr. Kamau Wairuri, the foundation donated sanitary pads to 90 girls, ensuring they can attend school without interruptions. The boys' soccer team also received footballs, and a fun "pepeta" competition was held. Dr. Kamau inspired the students with his personal journey, emphasizing the life-changing power of education and the importance of hard work, regardless of one's background. The visit further strengthened the foundation's commitment to empowering the youth.

Economic Empowerment Session With Women Groups In Rwathia

On 11th September 2024, the Kamau Wairuri Foundation visited two women’s self-help groups in Rwathia, Murang’a County, to support their economic empowerment efforts. Ms. Violet Wainaina, Executive Director of the foundation, led discussions on the importance of financial literacy, savings, and collective action. Dr. Kamau Wairuri, Founder and Patron, praised their progress and encouraged others to join these groups to benefit from development schemes. The foundation also made financial contributions and distributed essential supplies, with a commitment to further capacity-building initiatives.

Sanitary Pads Drive For Rwathia Mixed Secondary School In Kangema District

On 5th July 2024, the Kamau Wairuri Foundation visited Rwathia Mixed Secondary School in Murang'a County as part of its Dignified Learning Program. The visit highlighted the economic challenges faced by families, particularly in providing menstrual hygiene products, which has led to girls missing school and facing potential risks like unsafe sexual practices. The Foundation addressed these issues by distributing sanitary towels to 90 girls, ensuring they have the necessary supplies to stay in school. Additionally, the program aims to support underprivileged students by providing school uniforms and mentorship to promote a dignified learning experience.
