To achieve our mission, we have organized our work under five programs.
We support children from underprivileged backgrounds to access formal education in a dignified manner. This includes providing them with school uniforms and dignity packs that include basic hygiene supplies. We also support learning more broadly by providing mentorship sessions to the students through school visits. In some cases, we provide support for school fees to needy students who are unable to access the available bursaries provided by the government.
As physical and mental health challenges compound, there is a need to shift focus from mainly treating illness to promoting wellbeing in our communities. This enables people to live well, in the ways which matter to them, even when things are difficult. We are committed to supporting wellbeing in our communities.
We work with medical professionals and community health promoters to raise awareness on critical threats to public health and promote healthy living. We do this through group-based learning and health talks, both online and in-person, on relevant topics such as drugs and substance abuse, road safety, mental health and maternal health.
We also support families in crisis going through crisis and grief through small grants and home visits. This includes providing support to the elderly, people with disabilities, and people with chronic illnesses.
We strongly believe in community-led development. Communities know their priorities and have the necessary mechanisms of achieving their objectives. We therefore partner with existing groups and institutions in the community to deliver on shared goals that are of significance to the community, especially to the youth and women.
We do this through financial and in-kind support to various social groups & clubs, learning institutions, Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Faith Based Organisations (FBOs). Some of our activities have included:
Through our civic education program, we enhance the capacity of citizens to know their rights and responsibility in governance process. Our civic educators conduct trainings and public sensitization sessions on overview of the Kenyan constitution, devolution and public participation. This includes sensitization on Public Finance processes and encouraging citizen participation in the budget making process. We also address important issues such as land rights, climate change and environmental protection and access to justice.
They also engage with the community and educate them on the electoral process and the importance of voting. We also sensitize the community members, especially the youths on importance of taking IDs and registering as voters and come out to vote during the voting day.
Our strategies include engaging with community members in various community gatherings as well as participation in media interviews and use of digital media tools.
