Kamau Wairuri Foundation visited the Murang’a Children's Rescue Center in Muranga Town, for what turned out to be a heartwarming Chapati Festival on Saturday, 13th April 2024. The event was carried out by the foundation in conjunction with the Rotaract Clubs of Kikuyu and Murang'a University of Technology.

The event provided a unique opportunity for us and the Rotaractors to engage with the children. The rescue center is home to 89 children, from infants as young as two months to young adults of up to 22 years old. The joy and excitement of the children was palpable. The children relished the company and attention from their visitors. Njai Kelvin from the foundation took the lead in entertaining the children, leading to many moments of tremendous delight.

Dr. Kamau, founder and patron of the Kamau WairuriFoundation, joined in the activities at the rescue center. After serving the children lunch, he presented donations of shoes for all the children and foodstuff to the rescue center. He acknowledged the support of his friends and the Rotaractors in visiting a success.

The children found it hard to believe Dr. Kamau’s life story, coming from neighboring Mukuyu and schooling at the Mjini Primary School before proceeding to Starehe for high school education and then obtaining remarkable success in higher education. “My life story is evidence of the transformative power of education,” Dr Kamau said.

Brian Magana, Assistant District Rotaract Representative and former president of the Rotaract Club of Kikuyu, urged the children to work hard and also develop a high sense of belonging."You are children of the universe and have all the right to be in this world act it and own up," he said. Mr Magana was integral to the planning and execution of the visit.

Chege, one of the young leaders at the rescue center welcomed the visitors and expressed gratitude on behalf of the children at the center. He urged us to return. "Your presence today has brought immense joy to us. We encourage you to visit us again," Chege said.

In her turn, Ms Noela, the Social Worker at the center, thanked us for visiting and urged us to return to share joy and hope with the children.
